B:SCOTT A Beautiful Struggle

B:SCOTT Autumn/ Winter '11-'12 runway show at CONCEPT LA Fashion Week

Chicago winds send us a wisp of sophistication with the introduction of B:SCOTT, a menswear label with purpose and structure.  The man behind the creative hysteria is Brandon Jeremiah Scott- with an experience dating back to his days as an assistant to the designers of NICE Collective, leading to an opportunity offered to him by San Francisco based designer Rebecca Beeson to start his first line, B.Son.  Scott oversaw all design, production and sales, and was acknowledged by Sportswear International as Best New Designer of 2007.

Eager to explore and expand on his own vision, Brandon parted ways with B.Son in 2009 and launched his first collection, B:SCOTT.  The line offers a casual sophistication that easily enables a swagger for any mister to layer staple pieces as necessary to the season’s climate year round.  The intention is to create menswear that encapsulates the fusion of Japanese and German aesthetics, treating each seam like the bones of a building– and deriving inspiration from his grandfather who trained at the Bauhaus in the 1930s.  The mundane beauty of everyday life from a destitute parking lot, to a vintage car, or a sky scraping building catalyzes the entire collection.

B:SCOTT initially debuted using fleece and denim textiles out of waxed pants and double shawl collar cardigans adding a hint of street sensibility.  Kicking it up a few notches with the latest Autumn/Winter collection, Scott adds wool and leather to his repertoire.  Common themes include utilitarian jackets, knicker length trousers and ribbed trim sweaters, as well as, cardigans and hoodies.  Rich colors, such as burgundy, olive, dark gray and black spill onto the fabrics eloquently along with an impressive collection of man-ccessories: over-sized backpacks, weekender duffel bags, and portfolio folders that many gals would be happy to buy for their boo– or themselves for that matter.  During LA Fashion Week this past Spring, he sent masked models down the runway forcing on-lookers to really hone in on the garments’ construction and detail, rather than crush on a handsome face– the perfect equilibrium of artistic fascination and business smarts.

Brandon’s  motto is both beautiful and profound; “You have never really lived until you have really struggled,” setting him on a path for greatness.  What the future holds for B:SCOTT is synonymous with what his collections express.  Embracing the ‘American struggle’ to make a name for himself, while maintaining creative integrity and unadulterated passion.
