Brad Pitt is one undeniably handsome actor that has made our hearts go thump-thump–thump-thump for over a decade now. But there is a new Pitt making rounds and stealing the swoon scene. Some know Michael Pitt from his recent role as Jimmy Darmody on HBO’s drama series, Boardwalk Empire. However we recall this blue-eyed, pouty-lipped cutie from his convincing performance as the late grunge star Kurt Cobain in Gus Van Sant’s film, Last Days and whilst never forget his curious innocence in Bernardo Bertolucci’s risque film, The Dreamers– where not much was left to the imagination.
News flash! Pitt is now gracing Prada‘s ad campaign for Spring/Summer ’12 and it couldn’t be any more perfect of a match for the impeccably tailored suits, silky ascot cravats, retro prints, and saturated colors in the collection. As the new face of the Italian luxury label, the young star, gets into character with an Elvis Presley like demeanor reviving Hollywood’s golden age while incorporating the machismo of Marlon Brando.
According to Prada, through the campaign Pitt, “explores the language of male role models from the rock star to the playboy, from the self-reflective introvert to the engaging and humorous farceur.” It is also meant to illustrate and emphasize the idea of a contemporary man, whom all, “work when they play and play when they work.” Such is clearly the case that prolific photog David Sims captured for the ‘studio icon’ themetic shoot.
Interestingly enough, a few years back Miu Miu approached Michael (when they were still doing menswear) to be their subject but he supposedly ended up turning them down due to concern over interfering with his ultra masculine image. However, Jamie Bochert, his long time love is rumored to possibly have had some influence over his change of heart toward doing ad campaigns, after all she is an über seasoned model. Both whom hate the business but look at the bigger picture by getting paid to be in the picture. But regardless of who made the final decision it was, indeed, a great call and even greater look. So you see, there is no need to mourn the demise of Darmody any longer because Prada (as per usual) has our best interests (and celeb-crushes) in mind with this campaign.
