On Our Radar: Song for the Mute

Disciples of androgyny and gentleman of cultivated taste,  listen with your eyes for a moment.  Australian menswear label, Song for the Mute, emerges to amuse you with their collections that are sleek, modern, and unconventional.

Initially taking notice of an evolution that had been locally surpassing the norms of men’s conservative style, then finding a connection between expectations and dreams, only to recite poetry through fashion.  With smart tailoring  and the use of innovative material in each garment it makes us wonder if  Rick Owens, Tom Ford, Rad Hourani, Balmain, and Rei Kawakubo all got together to contribute their most favorable characteristics into one heck of a collaborative project. But in actuality the Song is sung and founded by (just) two-  graphic artist (award winning) Melvin Tanaya and designer (Academia Italiana Di Moda-trained) Lyna Ty whom are admittedly infatuated by nature and strive to revive a neoteric renaissance.

While talks of womenswear is nonexistent Lyna talks accessories, “We have collaborated with the Melbourne-based jewelry label Henson creating our first capsule range of jewelry for Spring-Summer 2012 and are currently in talks with an amazing shoemaker to discuss the possibility of doing our own footwear line early next year.”  As of now, SFTM, is carried exclusively in Australia and other international boutiques such as Harrolds, Fallow, Dirtbox and Dilettante, and Ayin in Osaka, Entrance in Romania, INK in Hong Kong, and online retailer For-Tomorrow.  Here’s hoping Song for the Mute make their way to the States soon.
